Stem cells have been deemed as potentially vital for the curing of baldness. As men age, stem cells become deactivated. It is not far into the future, researchers believe, that scientists will discover a way to wake these cells up again.

Exactly how great the effect this drug has on such conditions and disorders remains unknown. All prescription medication will have side effects that will be experienced by some and not others.

Hair loss may be caused by other reasons meaning that treating the hair loss with propecia might not be necessary. Often hair loss is caused after one has experienced illness of some kind, post-surgery, or due to an underactive or overactive thyroid gland. Sometimes if there is too much vitamin A in the system, this will lead to a loss of hair.

In women, they may lose their hair approximately 3 months after they have had a baby. While the woman is pregnant, the body retains hair that would otherwise fall out due to high levels of hormone so the normal cycle of growth is not functioning. Medications such as anticoagulants, high blood pressure or medications for cardiovascular treatment can also cause hair loss in women. It is important to note that due to evidence of birth defects in new born babies, propecia cannot be taken by women.

Propecia’s main ingredient is Finasteride. This drug works as an inhibitor of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This hormone also plays a role in the developing of prostate cancer so propecia is multi-functional.

Results from a 5 year study of propecia reveal that 90% of men taking it experienced visible results and 70% actually regrew hair. Because propecia is a form of hormone therapy, the daily dose is a must.  Taking propecia inconsistently will have very adverse effects on the body.
